Hiking in northern Thailand

Hiking in the mountain areas of northern Thailand has become increasingly popular. A mixture of breathtaking nature as well as the possibility to visit the local hill tribes is what attracts people.

We decided to go on a two day hiking trip with a local guide from the Karen hill tribe. Our guide Preesha not only invited us to spend the night in his traditional bamboo style home but also cooked us wonderful meals. We reached his village after hiking for a full day through beautiful mountain landscape and bamboo forests.  It was a very exciting experience to see the way the local tribes live. At night when we could see our own breath we did however feel happy that our houses back home are not made from bamboo.

As the sun set we gathered around the bonfire. We felt far from civilization even though we were in the middle of a village. There was no electricity or warm water and there were no noises or city lights to interrupt the clear sky full of stars.
