Can an ant be a farmer?

Well, the answer is actually yes. The leaf cutter ants are very easy to spot in the jungle as they are always carrying large pieces of leaves back to their colony. At first sight you might think that they bring these leaves home to eat, but that is not the case.

The leaves are needed to cultivate the only thing that these ants eat, a certain type of mushroom. So, the leaf cutter ants are actually farmers, they grow and cultivate all their food.
